Gyllenhaal prevails in NYC lease dispute

NEW YORK, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal is safely tucked away in her New York apartment Monday after a judge blocked an attempt to evict her.

The new mom and star of "World Trade Center" had been ordered out of the $5,000-per month residence in Greenwich Village amid a spat among the owners of the property.

The New York Post said Gyllenhaal signed a renewal lease with one landlord who was apparently acting without the consent of the other two owners. The other pair ordered her out on the grounds the lease wasn't valid.

The plaintiffs contended that Gyllenhaal's original lease had been signed by all three landlords, so therefore the renewal should have been as well.

Manhattan Civil Court Judge Marc Finkelstein ruled last week that Gyllenhaal signed the renewal in good faith and had paid all rent owed, making it a valid lease.
