DETROIT, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Comedian Bill Cosby headed a workshop in Detroit focused on offering those in attendance strengthening techniques to use for a positive sense of self.
Cosby -- whose full name is William Henry "Bill" Cosby Jr. -- headlined "My Life: Who's in Charge?" Saturday at Wayne County Community College District's downtown campus and offered suggestions for increasing one's strength of self, said The Detroit Free Press.
"You're about to listen, absorb and to challenge yourself to move in a positive direction," the former "Cosby Show" star said at the motivational event. "Strength, that's what we're after."
The event, attended by around 600, was part of an initiative the 69-year-old comedian started entitled ARISE Detroit!, which focuses on issues facing African Americans in the Michigan city.
Cosby said he believes the problems plaguing Detroit's minorities can be overcome through both personal and community-based efforts, the Free Press said.
