Agassi raises millions for charity

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- The Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation helped raise more than $8.6 million to help at-risk boys and girls at a gala concert event in Las Vegas.

At Saturday's concert at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, the recently-retired tennis great was joined by musicians Phil Collins and Sarah McLachlan to raise funds for the organization he founded in 1995.

The event, which was conducted along with a black-tie dinner and a live auction, reached its financial goal for support of several related charities throughout Nevada.

"Every year, I am overwhelmed by the tremendous support the Grand Slam for Children receives from the Las Vegas community, business partners and the entertainment industry," said Agassi, whose foundation enjoyed its 11th successful Grand Slam event. "It is gratifying to know that 100 percent of the money we raised tonight will directly benefit children who require our assistance."

The release said that to date the annual events of Agassi's charity has helped raise $60.9 million and drawn in more than 90,000 supporters.
