Hollywood Film Festival to honor Affleck

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Oct. 4 (UPI) -- The Hollywood Film Festival is set to honor Ben Affleck with its annual supporting actor of the year award.

Daily Variety said that in addition to recognizing Affleck's performance in the film "Hollywoodland," the annual film festival will bestow its film preservation trophy to the nonprofit group, the Film Foundation, on Oct. 23 at California's Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The 34-year-old Affleck, who won an Academy Award for his screenwriting talents in "Good Will Hunting," is currently directing the film "Gone, Baby, Gone," which he also wrote.

The paper said that since being established in 1990, the Film Foundation has funded film preservation and restoration through the efforts of co-founders Woody Allen, Robert Altman, Francis Ford Coppola, Clint Eastwood, Stanley Kubrick, George Lucas, Sydney Pollack, Robert Redford, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.
