NEW YORK, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Patrick Wilson says he is pleased his film, "Little Children," portrays a sex offender as a complicated man -- not just a moustache-twirling villain.
Based on Tom Perrotta's novel, "Little Children" is about a group of suburban parents whose lives are disrupted when Ronnie, a convicted sex offender played by Jackie Earle Haley, moves back to the neighborhood.
"However dark and sinister the person is, I think it is important to look at them as a human. You find yourself caring for this person half-way through the movie and you go, 'Why do I care?' Well, because he is human," Wilson said.
The actor, who plays a stay-at-home dad in the film, said moviegoers aren't expected to overlook the character's actions but he also said the film's acting and writing are so good, it will be hard for audiences to judge the character as merely a stock movie bad guy.
"The character of Ronnie has his flaws, as well, but he also has a heart and a soul. To me, that's more interesting. That's more realistic. It makes people think."
