Copyright suit against Knowles dismissed

HOUSTON, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- A federal judge in Houston has dismissed a lawsuit filed by a Minneapolis woman claiming pop star Beyonce Knowles stole her song for the hit "Baby Boy."

U.S. District Judge Nancy Atlas tossed the suit on Sept. 21, ruling Knowles did not violate copyright laws as charged by Jennifer Armour, Music World Entertainment said in a news release.

Armour's suit filed last year claimed "Baby Boy" was copied from her demo, "Got a Little Bit of Love for You," which she has sent to Music World Entertainment in March 2003.

Although it was revealed "Baby Boy" was actually recorded a month before Armour's submission, the suit was dismissed on the basis of a side-by-side comparison of the two songs, which Atlas found to be "substantially dissimilar."

In addition to Knowles, the suit named rapper and Def Jam President Jay-Z, producer Scott Storch, SONY BMG Music Entertainment and Hitco Music Publishing.
