De Niro mum on trans fat in news briefing

NEW YORK, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Actor Robert De Niro was caught off-guard when New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg plugged the actor's restaurant during a joint news conference.

Bloomberg, De Niro and Rome Mayor Walter Veltroni met with reporters to kick of a partnership between the Tribeca Film Festival, co-founded by De Niro, and the initial Rome Film Fest, the New York Post said Saturday. The festivals will exchange films.

Bloomberg mentioned De Niro's Tribeca Grill when answering a question about the city's plan to bar restaurants from using trans fats, the Post said. De Niro said nothing when Bloomberg said, "If you look at some of the best restaurants in this city, including Robert De Niro's, they do not use trans fat," the Post said.

De Niro did not say whether he supported the planned ban, the Post said.
