Margaret O'Brien to benefit Garland museum

COLUMBIA HEIGHTS, Minn., Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Oscar-winning star Margaret O'Brien will greet and speak with fans at a benefit at the Heights Theatre in Columbia Heights, Minn., this week.

The 69-year-old O'Brien often gets asked questions about Judy Garland, who she worked with on the classic 1944 musical "Meet Me in St. Louis." Wednesday's benefit at Heights Theatre -- which will include a screening of "Meet Me in St. Louis" -- will raise money for the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minn., Garland's hometown, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported.

O'Brien is still known for her amazing ability to cry on cue. She told the Press it was always very easy for her to cry, or to stop crying, on command.

O'Brien said if she weren't an actress, she would have been an archeologist.

At Wednesday's benefit, O'Brien plans to auction off of her collection of antiques and jewelry. She will not, however, auction off her collection of pre-Columbian artifacts, or her Oscar, which was once stolen from her by a maid, but returned nearly 50 years later.
