LOS ANGELES, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- DreamWorks Animation has tapped "The Lion King" director Rob Minkoff to bring the classic "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" cartoon to the silver screen.
The late Jay Ward's time-traveling adventures of the genius dog and "his boy Sherman" will be digitally animated for the big screen, The Hollywood Reporter said Friday. The script is being written by Andrew Kurtzman of "Camp Nowhere."
Minkoff is more than familiar with family fare. In addition to the "Lion King," Minkoff both "Stuart Little" movies for Sony Pictures.
"Mr. Peabody" was on of several segments in the "Rocky & Bullwinkle" TV series. It premiered in 1959 and still runs on cable TV's Cartoon Network.
Ward's daughter, Tiffany Ward, of Bullwinkle Studios will be executive producer along with Eric Ellenbogen of Classic Media, The Reporter said. Minkoff and his producing partner, Jason Clark, will oversee the film's development.
