Rome tenants balk at fee for Kidman ad

ROME, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Residents of a Rome apartment building obstructed a film crew as it tried to shoot an ad starring Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman.

The 280 families were outraged to learn their landlord had agreed to a fee of less than $7,500 to film five days on their terrace and in their laundry room and courtyard.

One tenant described the fee as a "plate of lentils" compared to what Kidman was getting, the Guardian reported.

"If it's her, they're going to have to pay us more," said one man quoted by Corriere della Sera.

The residents blocked cameramen and lighting technicians from setting up.

When residents learned the actress was Kidman, they focused on the disparity between her compensation and theirs.

The fee was changed to more than $31,500 and the filming proceeded.

Kidman was performing in an ad for Sky Italia pay TV where she portrays a housewife living in the apartment building. In the ad, she tells a young Italian boy, "never stop dreaming" - the motto for the pay-TV station.
