Roman residents paid for surprise filming

ROME, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- An advertisement shoot in Rome featuring Nicole Kidman was delayed recently after area residents boycotted it until they received payment for the intrusion.

Residents of the Italian city's famous Testaccio district were angered at the elaborate production, which began six hours earlier than it had been scheduled, and protested until Sky Italia officials paid them nearly $32,000 for the inconvenience, the Daily Mail reported.

"We called a meeting of residents and voted to take action until an agreement was reached," said the residents' spokesman, Luigi Prosperi. "We blocked off the entrance to the apartment block and didn't allow any of the crew in. We knew we had the upper hand as Nicole was only available for the day."

Kidman was forced to wait in her trailer for hours in sweltering temperatures, but Prosperi said the actress was perfectly hospitable once filming was underway.

"We had nothing against Nicole. She was fantastic and smiled and waved to us and even said 'Ciao' in Italian which was very nice of her,." he told the newspaper.
