JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Africa Unite concerts are scheduled for February in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa.
The monthlong celebration will begin in Durban on Feb. 6, which would have been the 62nd birthday of Jamaican reggae legend Bob Marley. A benefit concert will be held in Durban the next day, Billboard.com reported.
Marley's "Africa Unite" advocated pan-Africa solidarity.
A "One Love" fundraising dinner on Feb. 14 is set for Johannesburg's Constitutional Hill.
The Africa Unite For Empowerment Benefit Concert will take place Feb. 17 in Johannesburg, and a third concert, Africa Unite for Peace Benefit Concert, is being planned for Feb. 24 in Cape Town.
Rita Marley, widow of the singer, songwriter and guitarist, is executive director of the event. She will be releasing her book, "No Woman No Cry," during the festivities, Billboard.com said.
Choosing South Africa to host the third annual Africa Unite was part of a "divine order" that started in Ethiopia, then moved to Ghana where she lives, Rita Marley said Tuesday at a press conference.
"We are now coming to South Africa -- it's for South Africans at home and abroad to realize that we are part of it (uniting Africa)," Marley said.
