Tchaikovsky monument unveiled near Moscow

KLIN, Russia, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- A monument to Russian composer Peter Tchaikovsky has been unveiled at a memorial museum in the town of Klin, near Moscow.

The monument features a sitting Tchaikovsky holding a music book in his hand containing the score of his opera "Queen of Spades," Itar-Tass reported.

"We would like the monument to show Tchaikovsky the way he looked at home," said Merited Artist of Russia Alexander Rozhnikov, the author of the monument.

The unveiling included a ceremony in which first-year students of music and fine arts colleges of the Moscow Region were admitted to a student community, followed by a concert at which Tchaikovsky's works were performed.
