LOS ANGELES, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Kelly Macdonald of HBO's "The Girl in the Cafe" took the Emmy for supporting actress in a TV movie at the Emmy Awards in Los Angeles Sunday.
The win ended controversy over the nomination of Ellen Burstyn for her seconds-long appearance in HBO's "Mrs. Harris."
Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" won best variety, music or comedy series.
NBC's "My Name is Earl" picked up writing and directing Emmys, with Fox's "24" taking the drama directing award and HBO's "The Sopranos" winning it first trophy of night for writing.
Minutes after performing a tribute to Dick Clark, Barry Manilow won his second career Emmy, taking the award for individual performer in a variety music or comedy series.
"This goes into the operating room with me Monday morning as a good luck charm," said Manilow, who delayed having hip surgery so he could take part in a tribute to TV legend Dick Clark on the Emmys telecast.
