DMX cancels Persian Gulf tour for troops

WASHINGTON, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Rapper DMX canceled a scheduled trip this week to the Persian Gulf to entertain U.S. troops, but gave no reason for the change of heart.

Allhiphop.com said the rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, initially requested to be part of a United Service Organizations tour in Iraq and Kuwait, prompting organizers to quickly set up a series of dates, only to have Simmons miss his scheduled flight there.

"This tour was put together in just under two weeks, because we know how much service men and women appreciate his performances," said USO executive John Hanson. "Mr. Simmons let a lot of people down."

The Web site said while no reason was given why the 35-year-old rapper failed to arrive for his scheduled flight Wednesday, Hanson promised the USO would continue its efforts to offer troops quality entertainment such as past performers 50 Cent, Master P and Ludacris.
