HOLLYWOOD, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- The films of two of Hollywood's most memorable matinee idols, Clark Gable and James Stewart, have been collected in DVD boxed sets.
"James Stewart -- The Signature Collection" from Warner Bros., includes six interesting films, though not those for which he was most famous -- "The Philadelphia Story" and "It's a Wonderful Life," The Los Angeles Times reported.
The Stewart DVDs include "The Stratton Story" (1949) about a White Sox pitcher; "The Naked Spur" (1953) about a bounty hunter; "The Spirit of St. Louis" (1957) about Charles Lindbergh, directed by Billy Wilder; "The FBI Story" (1959) about the federal agency; "Firecreek" (1968), a western; and "The Cheyenne Social Club" (1970), a western comedy.
The "Clark Gable Collection" features three Fox films: "Call of the Wild" (1935), an adaptation of Jack London's novel also starring Loretta Young; "Soldier of Fortune" (1955) with Susan Hayward and Michael Rennie; and "The Tall Men" (1955), a western featuring Jane Russell and Robert Ryan.
