Rachel Dratch recast in '30 Rock'

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Former "Saturday Night Live" star Rachel Dratch's character has been cut from the U.S. TV comedy "30 Rock," but she will appear as different characters.

Dratch was supposed to play Jenna DeCarlo, an actress in "The Girlie Show," which was one element of "30 Rock." But the show is now going to focus more on the dynamics among stars Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey and Tracy Morgan, Daily Variety reported.

Dratch will be included in several episodes as different characters, including a cat wrangler.

"Both Tina and I obviously adore Rachel, and we wanted to find a way in which we could go to her strength," said "Saturday Night Live" creator Lorne Michaels. Michaels also produces for "30 Rock" and says Dratch's new part is much funnier.

Baldwin plays the network executive and Fey the head writer for a "Girlie Show" where Morgan is an actor, Variety said.

Dratch was on "Saturday Night Live" for seven seasons, but the cast has been cut. At the Critics Association press tour last month, Michaels cited budgetary reasons for the smaller cast.
