Garrett in TV marriage, real-life split

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Comedian Brad Garrett, who is starring in a new U.S. sitcom "'Til Death" about the challenges of marriage, revealed he and his wife have gotten a divorce.

The split between Garrett and Jill Diven after a seven-year marriage, is amicable. Garrett said he can make jokes because Diven is "an extraordinary woman; the greatest mom in the world," and they have remained best friends, USA Today reported.

Garrett has been living three months in a separate residence, but has a room in the Woodland Hills mansion they shared. The couple have two children, Max, 7, and Hope, 6.

Garrett emphasized the importance of being two parents. "Sure, it's daunting to have Daddy move out, but when he's back two days later, and he gives Mom a hug, and everyone goes to lunch -- that's what it's about," Garrett said.

Diven sees similarities in the "'Til Death" characters' marriage and her relationship with Garrett, USA Today reported.

"It relates a lot to how Brad and I are together ... or were," Diven said. "We were always so comfortable with each other."
