Robin Williams seeks alcohol treatment

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Oscar-winning actor Robin Williams is being treated for alcoholism after 20 years of sobriety, his publicist has revealed.

Mara Buxbaum said in a statement Williams "found himself drinking again and has decided to take proactive measures to deal with this for his own well-being and the well-being of his family," E! Online reports.

The statement followed a U.S. tabloid report that Williams had entered a Hazelden rehab facility in Oregon, E! said.

Williams has said he gave up his party lifestyle after his friend John Belushi died of an overdose in 1982. The comic was one of the last people to see the "Saturday Night Live" star alive.

Williams' latest film, "The Night Listener", opened Friday in U.S. theaters.
