Bale set to meet with Russell at '3:10'

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Actor Christian Bale is set to co-star with fellow thespian Russell Crowe in the remake of the classic U.S. western film "3:10 to Yuma."

The Hollywood Reporter said while actors Tom Cruise and Eric Bana had been considered for the film, it will be the "Batman Begins" star who will join the cast when it begins filming this summer.

After four years of preproduction, Columbia Pictures had recently placed the remake of the famed 1957 western in turnaround, the Reporter said, but Relativity Media swept in and agreed to either fully or partially finance the film, the Reporter said.

The original "Yuma" focused on the battle of wills when rancher David Evans attempted to take a captured outlaw, played by Glenn Ford, to a Yuma-bound train for his upcoming trial.

For the remake, Bale will take on the role of the small-time rancher while Russell will reprise the role made famous by Ford, the report said.
