LOS ANGELES, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- U.S. pop star Jessica Simpson says her new CD, "A Public Affair," is about a "fun night" with friends -- not about her failed marriage to Nick Lachey.
Simpson said people assume from the title that the album is about her marriage, mtv.com reported and she acknowledged that the first single from the CD -- "Let Him Fly" -- was inspired by the couple's breakup.
But she said the rest of the songs are not about the marriage and divorce.
The second single, "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" is an updated version of Dead or Alive's 1980s hit, Simpson said.
"B.O.Y." and "If You Were Mine," were intended for clubs, but the other nine songs are slower tunes.
"I do love singing ballads," Simpson said. "When I wrote from my soul, there's some country in there, and that's what (producers) Jimmy Jam and Terry (Lewis) wanted to focus on."
There's also a production by Scott Storch called "Fired Up." The song title came from something one of Simpson's best friends, CaCee Cobb, always says: "Let's get fired up."
Simpson asked Cobb and other friends to collaborate on "Swing With Me," a new rendition of Benny Goodman's 1938 classic "Sing, Sing, Sing."
