LONDON, July 28 (UPI) -- The new movie version of the popular 1980s TV detective show, "Miami Vice," had its London premiere with co-stars Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx on hand.
The film, which opens in theaters across Britain next week, was directed by Michael Mann, 63, who was executive producer of the original show that ran from 1984 to 1989, the BBC reported.
Mann said he has wanted to direct a film version of "Miami Vice" from the first time he saw the pilot for the TV show decades ago.
In the original show, Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas played the two undercover Miami police detectives.
"I asked Michael Mann very politely if he would let me be in the film, if he would give me a few lines or let me hang about on set," said Foxx -- who previously worked with Mann on "Ali" and "Collateral."
The film is different from the television show, Foxx said.
"Michael Mann strips it down and makes it sexy," he said.
