LOS ANGELES, July 28 (UPI) -- Police Friday arrested "Lethal Weapon" star Mel Gibson in Malibu, Calif., on suspicion of drunk driving.
The Oscar-winning filmmaker was stopped at 2:36 a.m. Friday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. Gibson was released on $5,000 bond.
"Right now, it's an ongoing investigation," Steve Whitmore, a spokesman for the sheriff's department, told E! News.
This is at least the second time Gibson has been stopped for drunk driving, although a 1984 incident occurred before the he reportedly began attending Alcoholic's Anonymous meetings in the 1990s. E! Online said Gibson took a break from his career 20 years ago to handle his difficulties.
"I wasn't channeling the energy properly," Gibson said in a 2004 CNN profile. "I was too much in the race, and I didn't have enough petrol, but I was going for the finish line anyway."
