Lee: Sci Fi show could spawn hit 'hero'

NEW YORK, July 20 (UPI) -- Comic book mogul Stan Lee says the new Sci Fi Channel show "Who Wants to Be a Superhero?" could discover a new hit superhero.

"We've done so many things in fantasy, I decided it was time to get on the bandwagon and do a reality TV show," said Lee, "but I decided to do it my way."

His way is to put 11 "superheroes" wearing home made costumes in a "secret lair" -- where they will compete to show that their fictional character has the qualities to be a hero, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.

"It takes more than a spandex outfit to make a hero," said Lee. "And what we're looking for is not somebody who can leap over a building with a single bound, or is a faster than a Ferrari or can break a stone wall with a punch."

The winner will be in a new comic book, written by Lee and published by Dark Horse Comics. There is also reportedly a deal for a Sci-Fi Channel live-action movie based on the character.

"We're already thinking of sequels: 'Who Wants to Be a Supervillain?'; 'Who Wants to Be a Sidekick?'; and 'Who Wants to Be a Superhero's Girlfriend Who Has to Be Rescued"'" joked Lee. "It can go on forever."
