Johnny Cash tops the Billboard 200

NEW YORK, July 12 (UPI) -- "American V: A Hundred Highways" shows that even after death, Johnny Cash has the power to be No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

Cash also knocked the Dixie Chicks "Taking the Long Way" out of the top spot on the Top Country Albums chart after seven straight weeks, Billboard.com reported Wednesday.

The Rick Rubin-produced "American V" sold the fewest copies of a No. 1 debut since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking data in 1991.

Nelly Furtado's "Loose" was No. 2 on the Billboard 200 while India.Arie's "Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship" fell to No. 3.

"Taking the Long Way" held at No. 4, Gnarls Barkley's "St. Elsewhere" moved up to No. 5, Rihanna's "A Girl Like Me" dropped to No. 6 and Rascal Flatts' "Me and My Gang" kept the No. 7 spot.

The soundtrack to Disney's "High School Musical" shifted to No. 8 and Dashboard Confessional's "Dusk and Summer" fell to No. 9.

Rise Against's "The Sufferer & the Witness" debuted at No. 10.

Overall CD sales were down 6 percent from the previous week at 9 million and 15 percent behind the same week last year. Sales for 2006 were down 5 percent compared to 2005 at 179.6 million units.
