CHICAGO, June 27 (UPI) -- Legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk has brought his new extreme sports tour to Illinois' Six Flags Great America amusement park.
The winner of 76 professional skateboarding competitions, Hawk is headlining Project 8 Boom Boom HuckJam at the park for four shows over a two-day period, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
"I just love to skate," the 38-year-old Hawk said, "It still makes me happy."
Since bursting on the skateboarding scene in 1983, the sport's elder statesman has seen a drastic change in the public's view of skateboarding.
"Originally skateboarding was viewed as a sport of outcasts and rebels, and now you have soccer moms doing it," Hawk told the paper.
Project 8 Boom Boom Huckjam features skateboarding demonstrations along with BMX and Moto-X dirt bike exhibitions at Six Flags Tuesday and Wednesday with shows at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
