Gibson set to leave 'Good Morning'

NEW YORK, June 26 (UPI) -- Wednesday marks the last day Charles Gibson is scheduled to be lead anchor of ABC TV's "Good Morning America."

Gibson is leaving the program to take over a new anchor position on ABC's "World News Tonight."

"I'm sort of in denial about leaving GMA," Gibson told celebritycafe.com, "I've been here for 19 years."

With Gibson leaving the program, "Good Morning" will now feature an all-female anchor team with Robin Roberts and Diane Sawyer, something that while unusual does not have ABC News President David Westin worried.

"The thing that is more important than gender is who the people are and what their abilities are and what their experience is," the Web site reports Westin saying.

"They put on a very strong program," he added regarding ratings leader "The Today Show," "But we can and will be No. 1. It's just a matter of how long it'll take."
