Fox searching for comedy projects

LOS ANGELES, June 26 (UPI) -- Los Angeles-based Fox Entertainment is actively searching for a new comedy series to help bolster its Sunday lineup and pair with its hit, "American Idol."

Fox Entertainment programming head Peter Liguori has said that the network is looking for a new series to match with "American Idol" when the highly-rated series returns for its sixth season in January, the Hollywood Reporter said.

"We have the best time slot on television to launch a show," Liguori told the Reporter. "If you're a comedy writer with a great idea, Fox is the place to come."

In addition to finding a running mate for the amateur singing show, Fox is hoping to find a new animation series to join their hit animated comedies "Family Guy" and "The Simpson" on its Sunday night lineup.

Despite a growing concern in the entertainment community regarding a lack of successful comedies at the network, Liguori remained hopeful that Fox's search would prove fruitful.

"I think that something big is going to break out of the comedy genre very soon because we've been in a down cycle in comedy for so long," the executive told the Reporter.
