LONDON, June 23 (UPI) -- Cross-dressing comic Eddie Izzard is in talks in London to play Sally Bowles in a West End production of "Cabaret," the Mirror reported.
Producers are said to be very excited about getting Izzard to play the heroine that Liza Minnelli made famous.
"Who would be better to play the lively, raunchy, kitsch part than Izzard?" one insider told the Mirror.
Izzard, 44, earned a Tony nomination for his role in the Broadway version of "A Day in the Death of Joe Egg."
Others being considered for the role include Billie Piper, Denise Van Outen and Martine McCutcheon. "Cabaret" is scheduled to open Oct. 10.
