Jamie Foxx tops R&B Hip-Hop awards

ATLANTA, June 22 (UPI) -- Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx led the field with eight nominations when nominees were announced for Billboard's annual R&B/Hip-Hop awards.

Foxx, who won the best actor Oscar for "Ray," is up for top R&B/hip-hop album and top artist. His collaborations with Kanye West on "Gold Digger" and Ludacris on "Unpredictable" got two mentions apiece, Billboard reported.

West was nominated in seven categories.

Mariah Carey and Mary J. Blige also received seven nominations each -- all in the same categories, including top R&B/hip-hop album and top R&B/hip-hop album artist.

Young Jeezy got four mentions -- including a best rap album nomination for "Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101." Young Jeezy, Ne-Yo, Keyshia Cole and Chris Brown are all contenders for top new artist.

Songwriting finalists are Johnta Austin, Robert Kelly, Scott Storch and Jermaine Dupri.

The Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Awards are scheduled to be presented in Atlanta Sept. 8. The awards will be determined by sales data from Nielsen SoundScan and radio airplay information from Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems.
