New MSNBC management announced

SECAUCUS, N.J., June 13 (UPI) -- Less than one week after the president of MSNBC abruptly left, NBC News has announced a new management team for its struggling network.

TV host Dan Abrams was named general manager in a surprise move, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

In a statement, NBC News President Steve Capus said Abrams' "insider's perspective" made him the perfect candidate.

Abrams has hosted the legal affairs show, "The Abrams Report," since December 2001. The show will continue with guest hosts for the time being.

"Dan is passionate about MSNBC and has the experience and strategic vision to lead it into its second decade," Capus said.

"We don't have to do 'newscasts' all the time, but it doesn't mean we do a yell-fest either," said Abrams on his ideas for the network. "We can do news and information in a more exciting way."
