TiVo adds new programming

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y., June 7 (UPI) -- TiVo executives announced in New York their new TiVoCast plan to offer subscribers access to 10 Web-based providers.

Providers ranging from The New York Times to the National Basketball Association will provide 400,000 of TiVo's 4.4 million subscribers television access to videos on their sites, USA Today reported.

"There's this exploding video availability on the Web," TiVo CEO Tom Rogers told USA Today. "But for most people it's not real until it's on your TV."

The DVD-R based expansion comes in the wake of TiVo's recent deal with online service provider Brightcove and a 13 percent decrease in the value of TiVo company shares over the last year.

"We've been approached by a large number of video providers", Rogers said. "This is the beginning of a whole new world."
