MEMPHIS, May 25 (UPI) -- New Orleans rapper Tab "Turk" Virgil has been ordered to pay $10 million to a Memphis police officer he was convicted of shooting in 2004.
Virgil was found liable for shooting Deputy Chris Harris in the jaw, hip, arm and calf during a Memphis drug raid in January 2004, AllHipHop.com reported Thursday.
Virgil, a former member of the New Orleans rap group, The Hot Boys, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for attempted second degree murder after gunfire residue was found on his clothing. He was given an additional 10-year sentence for being a felon with a handgun, a fugitive with a handgun and a drug addict with a handgun.
The judge ordered the sentences be served consecutively.
