Fox halts 'Used Guys' preproduction

LOS ANGELES, May 16 (UPI) -- The 20th Century Fox big-budget, sci-fi comedy "Used Guys," starring Ben Stiller and Jim Carrey, is apparently dead.

Preproduction has been halted on the comedy that reunited Stiller and Carey, and sources told The Hollywood Reporter the $112 million project will not resume in its current incarnation.

Stiller and Carey last worked together in the 1996 box office bomb, "The Cable Guy," The Reporter noted.

The studio issued a statement saying production was "delayed" because of scheduling issues.

Stiller is tied up filming another Fox film, "Night at the Museum," in New York and Vancouver, Canada, and would not have been finished in time to start work on "Used Guys," The Reporter said.

Fox said it would fill the June 15, 2007, release date of "Used Guys" with the "Fantastic Four" sequel starring Michael Chiklis, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Ioan Gruffudd.
