SAN ANTONIO, May 4 (UPI) -- San Antonio's "first lady of song," Tejano legend Rosita Fernandez has died of heart complications at age 88 in San Antonio.
The singer -- known simply as "Rosita" -- was born in Mexico and was among the first generation of female Tejano artists, Billboard.com reported. She died Tuesday in San Antonio.
Former first lady Lady Bird Johnson dubbed Rosita "San Antonio's first lady of song" during a special performance for 40 ambassadors at the Arneson River Theater in 1968.
In addition to her music, Fernandez appeared with John Wayne in "The Alamo" and had many TV roles as well, Billboard.com said.
She is survived by her husband of one year, Charlie Reeves; a son and daughter; four sisters and several grandchildren and great grand-children.
