Austen biopic under way in Ireland

DUBLIN, Ireland, April 6 (UPI) -- Shooting has begun in Dublin, Ireland, on "Becoming Jane," a biopic of author Jane Austen.

The film is about Austen's teenage love affair with Irishman Tom Lefroy, the Telegraph reported Thursday.

"It is young love," producer Robert Bernstein told the Telegraph. "It is Jane Austen in love, something you've never seen before, a complete departure from the usual oblique portrait of her as a spinster."

The film is being made under the banner of Ecosse Films, which won Bafta and Golden Globe awards with "Mrs. Brown," about Queen Victoria's relationship with her servant, John Brown.

"Brokeback Mountain" star Anne Hathaway is portraying Austen in the film, opposite James McAvoy of "Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."
