'Brokeback' takes top GLAAD film award

NEW YORK, March 28 (UPI) -- Ang Lee's "Brokeback Mountain" was named outstanding motion picture in wide release at the 17th annual GLADD Media Awards in New York.

The Monday night ceremony sponsored by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation at the Marriott Marquis Hotel will be televised on the cable Logo channel April 15 and on VH1 the following day, E! Online reported Tuesday.

"Brokeback Mountain" beat out "Capote," "The Family Stone," "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang" and "Rent" for the top film honor.

"Finally, an award that actually means something to me," Lee said after receiving a standing ovation. "The fact is 'Brokeback Mountain' has helped to change the world."

The outstanding reality program award went to Morgan Spurlock's documentary series "30 Days" and Oprah Winfrey was honored for the episode of her daily talk show, "When I Knew I Was Gay."

Melissa Etheridge was named outstanding music artist and a special recognition award was given to singer/songwriter Conor Oberst.
