MEMPHIS, March 22 (UPI) -- A waitress at The Peabody hotel bar in Memphis claims she was assaulted by country star Hank Williams Jr.
Memphis police are investigating charges filed by Holly Hornbeak, 19, who said she was waiting on Williams just after midnight Saturday when he started calling her names, asked to kiss her, then lifted her in a choke hold when she said no, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported Wednesday.
Williams was a guest at the hotel because his two daughters were hospitalized in Memphis with injuries suffered in a car wreck.
Williams was not asked to leave the hotel, the star's publicist, Kirt Webster noted, saying he was "shocked at such allegations."
Peabody General Manager Doug Brown confirmed police were investigating the alleged attack and denied Hornbeak's claim that hotel managers tried to discourage her from going to authorities.
