New trial ordered for rapper C-Murder

NEW ORLEANS, March 12 (UPI) -- Rapper Corey Miller, aka C-Murder, has been granted a new trial by the Louisiana Supreme Court, which overturned his 2003 murder conviction.

Miller's attorney, Ron Rakosky, told the New Orleans Times-Picayune he was hopeful Miller would be out on bond Monday.

The state's high court Friday threw out the second-degree murder conviction that had Miller incarcerated for life without parole.

Miller, 35, was convicted of killing Steve Thomas, 16, outside a club in Harvey, La. The high court agreed with a lower court judge who said the jury should have known about the criminal backgrounds of witnesses who testified against Miller.

The District Attorney's office has not said whether or not it would retry the rapper. Miller still faces an attempted murder charge in Baton Rouge, La., the newspaper said.

He is the brother of rappers Master P, Percy Miller, and Silkk the Shocker, Vyshonn Miller, who face trial in California on weapons charges.
