NEW YORK, March 8 (UPI) -- Boy George was sentenced to five days of community service and ordered to undergo rehab for the Oct. 7 drug bust at his New York loft.
In a deal with prosecutors, the former Culture Club frontman pleaded guilty to filing a false burglary report and cocaine possession charges against him were dropped, E! Online reported.
The British rocker born George O'Dowd could have faced a maximum 15 years in prison if convicted on the possession charge.
The judge ordered him to perform five days community service, fined him $1,000 and told him he could undergo drug treatment in England.
"I am relieved and happy that this case has been disposed of, and would like to thank the judge, the district attorney and my attorney, Lou Freeman, for the fair and speedy way it was dealt with," George said in a statement. "I love New York, and am looking forward to coming back and working in the States later this year."
He had called police to his loft Oct. 7 saying there had been a burglary, but instead of finding evidence of a break-in, police found 13 bags of cocaine sitting by his computer.
