Falk considering 'Columbo' film

NEW YORK, March 5 (UPI) -- Veteran Hollywood actor Peter Falk says he is considering bringing his beloved "Columbo" character to the big screen.

Most recently seen in the Paul Reiser comedy, "The Thing About My Folks," the 78-year-old actor is best-known for playing the trench coat-wearing Lt. Columbo in a 1970s series and in countless TV movies.

"Making a movie out of 'Columbo,' that comes up all the time," the "Pocketful of Miracles" star told United Press International in New York.

"I love (Columbo)," Falk said -- acknowledging he would like to see the character in a feature film.

However, he said he hasn't read a good enough script for it yet.

"It should be somehow special," Falk said.

So, what makes a good "Columbo" mystery?

"You gotta have a really ingenious murder; something that no one has ever seen before," he explained. "Then you have to have, in the first investigation scene, one thing that only Columbo would see. You can't have something the average detective ... or even a better-than-average detective could see. You could only have something that me and Sherlock Holmes would see and that's it and those are hard to come by."
