LOS ANGELES, March 2 (UPI) -- As if "Desperate Housewives'" Bree Van De Kamp doesn't have enough trouble, she's about to get a visit from her stepmom played by Carol Burnett.
Burnett told USA Today she will guest star on ABC's hit Sunday night show as Eleanor Mason, the cold stepmother of the character played by Marcia Cross.
"I thought this would be a hoot," Burnett told the newspaper. "I'm a soap opera fan. I've watched 'All My Children' for a hundred years, and this, too, is a very campy soap."
"Housewives" creator Marc Cherry described Burnett's character as "a very tightly wound, proper lady for whom appearances mean everything."
"A lot of what Bree has become came from this woman," he added.
The episode taping next week is to air April 9.
