British librarians pick 'Mockingbird'

LONDON, March 1 (UPI) -- British librarians have voted Harper Lee's "To Kill A Mockingbird" as the book they would recommend for all adults to read.

The No. 2 book on the list was the Bible followed by "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, the BBC reported Wednesday.

Other classics on the "most recommended list" are Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre," "1984" by George Orwell, Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" and Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice."

The survey was taken by the BBC in conjunction with World Book Day.
