LONDON, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- British glam rocker Gary Glitter could face charges back home if he is not punished for abusing two girls in Vietnam.
Glitter has paid money to his young victims' families and they in turn asked Vung Tau authorities for leniency when the trial of the 61-year-old rocker, whose real name is Paul Gadd, begins next month.
His attorney has been quoted saying he expects Glitter to get less than the maximum seven-year sentence if he is convicted of indecent acts with the 11- and 12-year-old girls.
Two British detectives spent a week in Vung Tau compiling evidence against Glitter, the Sun reported Sunday.
If British authorities decide his punishment was too light -- or if Glitter is acquitted -- they could issue an international arrest warrant and try him again in England, the newspaper said.
"There is a real chance Glitter could get a short sentence and be recommended for deportation," a source from Britain's Child Exploitation Unit told the Sun. "The last thing we want is him disappearing to another country."
Glitter was convicted of possessing child pornography in Britain in 1999.
