LOS ANGELES, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- The Directors Guild of America has named Ang Lee best feature film director of 2005 for "Brokeback Mountain."
The gay cowboy film that recently won four Golden Globes is considered a front-runner when Oscar nominations are announced Tuesday.
Lee was honored Saturday night during Saturday's 58th Annual DGA Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday.
Director Warner Herzog took the top documentary prize for "Grizzly Man," while "Three Wishes" director Tony Croll and "Fear Factor's" J. Rupert Thompson tied in the Reality TV category.
Michael Apted took the TV drama award for directing HBO's "Rome." Marc Buckland of NBC's "My Name Is Earl" was named best TV comedy director.
There was also a tie in the TV movie category, with HBO's Joseph Sargent for "Warm Springs" and George C. Wolfe for "Lackawanna Blues" sharing the honor.
Best direction in a TV musical or variety show went to Matthew Diamond for PBS's "Great Performances: Dance in America -- Swan Lake with American Ballet Theater."
"General Hospital's" Owen Renfroe won in the daytime serials category. Chris Eyre was named best children's programming director for Showtime's "Edge of America" and Craig Gillespie won for commercial directing.
Clint Eastwood received the DGA's Lifetime Achievement Award.
