Readers file suit over 'Million Pieces'

SEATTLE, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Two Seattle residents have filed suit in federal court seeking damages for "lost time" reading James Frey's "A Million Little Pieces."

Class-action status is being sought on behalf of the more than 2 million people who bought the best-seller, the Seattle Times reported Wednesday.

Frey's "memoir" was recently revealed to contain fabrications and exaggerations, which led Doubleday to offer refunds to people who bought the book directly from the publisher.

The book was recommended by talk show host Oprah Winfrey, who said she stood behind her endorsement because -- true or not -- Frey's message of redemption "still resonates."

Seattle attorney Mike Myers told the newspaper his suit differs from suits seeking refunds filed in Illinois and California because it seeks compensation for "the lost value of the readers' time."

Random House said it had not received a copy of the suit and, therefore, had no comment.
