Bon Jovi plane skids off Canada runway

HAMILTON, Ontario, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- "Slippery When Wet" took on a new meaning for Bon Jovi when a private plane carrying the rockers skidded off a runway in stormy Hamilton, Ontario.

The Boeing 707 from Buffalo, N.Y., was landing in heavy rain at Hamilton International Airport around 1 a.m. Saturday, the Toronto Sun reported Sunday. There were no serious injuries.

The plane slid to a stop with its front wheels past the edge of the runway. The members of Bon Jovi and their entourage were evacuated by a rescue crew.

Frontman Jon Bon Jovi laughed off the incident in concert later that night at the Air Canada Centre.

Telling the audience he had a prepared statement, he pulled out a piece of paper and said: "Rumors of our deaths have been greatly exaggerated."

A stewardess who suffered minor injuries ended up "in the safe arms of one of Hamilton's finest," he said.
