Asian Awards doled out in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- "Kung Fu Hustle" took the top film award at AZN TV's fifth annual "Asian Excellence Awards" ceremony in Los Angeles.

The awards honor achievements that advance the general stature of the Asian-American community, AZN said in a news release Friday.

"Hustle" star Steven Chow was honored for outstanding film performance while Yunjin Kim and Daniel Dae Kim of ABC's hit series, "Lost," were named the outstanding male and female television performers.

Baby Phat's Kimora Lee Simmons was honored with the stylemaker award, rockers Linkin Park were given the award for outstanding live performance and Lynn Chen of "Saving Face" won the outstanding newcomer award.

Also honored during the Thursday night ceremony were AIDS researcher Dr. David Ho, actress Lucy Liu and film writer/director Quentin Tarantino.

The "Asian Excellence Awards" ceremony was taped for broadcast Jan. 29 on the AZN network.
