MEMPHIS, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Memphis twins Terrell and Derrell Brittenum may have wowed "American Idol" judges, but the next judges they face may be a bit stricter.
Terrell, in fact, was jailed in Tuesday night when the "American Idol" episode taped in September showed him and his brother passing their first audition before the Fox TV judges in Chicago, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported Thursday.
Relatives told the newspaper Derrell was preparing to surrender to police on the same charges his brother faces in Georgia.
The 28-year-old twins are charged with forgery, theft by deception and financial identity fraud for allegedly buying a 2005 Dodge Magnum using another man's identity.
The twins refused extradition to Georgia and a hearing was pending, the newspaper said.
"We do not comment on the personal lives of our show participants," a Fox spokesman told the newspaper.
"American Idol's" Simon Cowell did comment, however. He told the TV tabloid show "Extra" he and the other judges liked the twins enough to promote them to the next round of competition -- but he isn't sure how the criminal case will affect their future with the show.
"It depends on what they've done," he said. "If it's serious, it's a problem."
