DGA announces ad directing nods

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- The Directors Guild of America Thursday announced the five finalists for its award honoring commercial direction.

Craig Gillespie, Spike Jonze, Rocky Morton, Noam Murro and Rupert Sanders will vie for the award during the Jan. 28 DGA Awards ceremony at the Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Century City, Calif., The Hollywood Reporter said.

"It takes great skill to tell a compelling story in under 60 seconds," DGA President Michael Apted said in announcing the nominees.

Jonze is nominated for the "Hello Tomorrow" ad for Adidas, "Penguin" for Miller Beer and "Pardon Our Dust" for the Gap.

Gillespie's work included "Surprise Dinner" and "Mini-Mart" for Ameriquest and "People of Pain" and "Fable of the Fruit Bat" for Altoids.

Morton's nod was for the "Kung Fu Clowns" and "Dance Fight Plumbers" spots for Bell South, "Office" for Cheese Nips and "Take Me Home" for CSI.

Murro's nomination stems from the "Monsters" spot for Hummer H3, "Black Out" for Orange and "Run Barefoot" for Nike/

Sanders got his nod for "Made to Perfection" for Adidas and "Joy" for Xbox.
